I now want a Honda HR-V. I just discovered that they come with a manual in fwd form on the base and midtrim, and I was debating the fit before but not a huge fan of the styling. I’m also a taller guy and looking for something a little comfier so I think this might fit the bill a little more than the fit. And surprisingly cheap used or even CPO, year or two old with 10-20k miles well under $20k. I would of course prefer it without the black plastic cladding but don’t find it too objectionable and would maybe lower it slightly for a more hatchback style.
Looks way better than any fit (although I have a soft spot for the first gen) and a little extra space certainly doesn’t hurt.

Your not alone

That’s...actually kinda cool.

As a man who is 6’3” and 315 lbs I can say that the HR-V is not the best choice. It is very much a tall Fit, but they also raised the floor a few inches - or at least it feels that way. I drive both on a semi-regular basis and I would much rather have a Fit.

The head and leg room in the Fit is better than the HRV.

I need to turn mine in as well. I quite like the C-HR. They look really good lowered.

Only thing stopping me from hunting you down is the fact that it’s a Honda. Barely taking solace in that.... But still a K20C1 Type-R swap won’t hurt.

I love those, too. They’re like the opposite of what I like as a car but my god I love how they look.

It’s the opposite of what I like as a car but when you lower one it turns into a funky (but better looking than the juke) hybrid lukewarm hatchback.

I’ll echo that the HR-V looks better when lowered, but for me the cheaper price of the Fit, lower center of gravity, and 300-ish pounds less in curb weight versus the HR-V makes me want a Fit. Really the major downside to a Fit for me is that I’d want a few more horsepower/notches of fun-factor, but keeping in mind all the other stuff it’d do well, I’ll look for a used one in a couple of years, throw some springs at it, and be content trying to drive a slow car fast.

Mail it to me, along with $20 to cover the processing and cancellation fees ;)

I do really like those too, I saw an awesome gray one today with a roof rack and was stunned. No Manuel unfortunately or it would be a strong contender, I don’t care about awd at all fwd is fine by me for a DD.

I’ll definitely keep that in mind I’m not quite that tall but would probably avoid a sunroof just to be safe. But I drive an NC now lol and my head literally touches the roof if I sit anywhere near straight up so my bar for spacious and comfortable is quite low lol.

From a practical aspect the fit is probably a bettrt choice I’m just not big on the styling. And the (manual at least) HRVs don’t seem to hold their value quite as well so looking at lightly used there’s much less of a price gap. It’ll probably come down to how well I fit in either one, I’m all for slow car fast and even with a stick and no awd it seems a manual fit is still slightly faster. But a few extra cubes of space don’t hurt either and the shifter position looks way nicer in the HRV, along with the interior as a whole.

Really? I’ll definitely try both, and probably avoid a sunroof too, but I’m also coming from an NC so my bar is pretty low.

It certainly wouldn’t. I’m seeing rumors of the 1.5t coming in a year or two not sure if it’s worth waiting for.

By then there’ll probably be a facelift. So maybe.

Hmm...lowered then 1JZ swapped... :)
![]() 02/03/2018 at 16:23 |

Right? I think it looks way better than the fit, I’m not really into “crossovers” but it’s close enough to a hatchback for me even stock height, although I would at some point probably want to lower it and maybe dip the black plastic trim or something

I only have a $50 can you mail my change back?

If you go with an HR-V and make it look like the lead image, I’m going to be so very jealous .

I saw the facelifted vezel on car and driver and didn’t think it was much of an improvement. Biggest thing for me is lack of Android auto but at least that lets me skip the higher trim and get the lx. But if they offer the 1.5t with the stick and the updated infotainment I would maybe wait, although a new one would be stretching the budget. Maybe the used prices will drop more once the facelift is out and I can get one even cheaper.

I would love to but as far as I’ve seen that color is only on the top trim which is cvt only. Maybe older ones had that combo? I do love that color for sure it’s beautiful in person.

I mean auto isn’t the end of the world. It’s a hybrid so I’ll trade mileage for manual every day in a DD.

I don’t think these are hybrids? If it was a hybrid I could maybe accept the trade off but when it’s a 1-2mpg difference I want the stick for sure.

Ug, I hate how much I like these. If they had the AWD with three pedals, I’d be all over them.

TIL we don’t get the hybrid in the North American market.

My only problem with the HR-V is that they don’t offer any of the extra colors on the non-CVT trim. Yes, you could plastidip it, but I don’t care - I want my eye-scorching blue from the factory.

Yeah but I don’t think crappy haldex awd with a manual would be very good, not that I’ve driven one. I like manual subies but the weather here (chicago) isn’t too bad so fwd with maybe some snow tires is perfectly acceptable.

That is a definite turn off for sure, looking at used ones I’ve seen LX and EX manuals in the green but I really love the blurple whatever they call it, I was bummed to see you couldn’t get that with a stick at least for 2018. But you can’t get green with a stick in 2018 either so maybe blurple/stick was a combo in 2016 or 2017. I also miss the dark purple ish color on older civics and fits.

Haha that’s ok YIL that the HRV comes in manual thus beginning the current obsession.
![]() 02/03/2018 at 19:09 |

Yeah mostly it’s the lower roof. Although the overall height might be taller the car also sits higher, so inrelation to the floor the seats and roof are lower. I have like 4 inches of headroom in the Fit and only had one or two in the HRV
![]() 02/03/2018 at 19:10 |

I actually like how they look and can’t argue with your reasoning. I’m also getting sick of 2 hour per day traffic where I can’t see anything but the car in front because I have a car and everything is so tall now.

The blurple is apparently called Mulberry, from a quick poke. The pictures don’t seem to do it justice.
![]() 02/03/2018 at 20:06 |

Yeah I’ll definitely try both but like I said, my bar is pretty low, I can’t sit anywhere close to straight in my NC without my head pressing into the roof. I’ll probably avoid a sunroof either way and sometimes there’s height adjustment on the seat so I almost always go all the way down.

I was stunned the first time I saw one when I was working at a Honda dealer, it really is beautiful. I don’t think I would actually buy the green, it’s a little too dark and olive-y for me, I think that’s why silver is so popular these days. It’s not that people don’t want actual colors, it’s just that with actual colors there’s so many different shades that people feel more strongly about one way or another. I pass a row of green equonoxs every day now and love that green, or the corolla green is pretty good too, but don’t think I would actually purchase the HRV in green, it’s not awful but I don’t love it.
![]() 02/03/2018 at 20:14 |

Well my current DD is a lowered NC so.... but it’s less about the view and the height of the car and more just wanting something easier to get in and out of and that has literally any space between my head and the roof.

I love most of the colors they put on the iM. They’re nice and vibrant, but not too flashy. Ford also does a nice job with providing plenty of colors for the Transit Connect. I just hope they don’t ruin the design of the Connect.

Yeah the iM is another good looking car, I might take a drive in one of those too just to see if it’s as bad as they say.
